One Best Thing Review
The One Best Thing page that I chose was "Student Centered Literacy: Adolescent Reading Development with iPad". The Author of this iBook is Kaj Kibak. Kaj graduated from Sonoma State University. She had teaching credentials in math and social studies. He also serves two terms in the CALServes Americorps. While in the Americorps he worked with at-risk youth in Santa Rosa, California. Today, Kaj is a 7th grade teacher who teaches Language Arts, Social Studies, and math. This is where he learned to integrate technology (iPads) in his lessons. He has used iPads ever since and absolutely loves it.

In this iBook it gives you many great examples of ways to incorporate technology into your curriculum (specifically iPads) and gives step by step examples on how to do all of these things. Using iPads can help build a student-centered curriculum that can motivate your students to want to do better and want to come to school. One example of this is one of his students names Natalie explaining from her iPad how to use notability and a step by step procedure on how to do so.
Notability is a note taking technique for the classroom. It can be used to write notes and can also be very useful for students who like to draw pictures to help them remember things. Every student is different which is why this can be such a useful tool for the students to use and make their own notes however they want to. You can also take pictures and highlight things that you think are very important which is exactly what Natalie was doing so he asked her to make a step by step on how to use it because she seemed to understand it very well, which is also a very good motivator for students.

Lets face it, students are not going to just sit there and pay attention to a lecture and actually retain information from it if they are not interested. Things like being able to take notes, follow along with lessons, and doing activities on the iPads will motivate them to want to learn about the subjects being taught while making them more independent and less dependent on the teachers. Integrating technology is so important and Kaj explains that very well in his iBook.
